...and for general residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial use
Cowls Sawmill specializes in producing high quality custom sawn pine, oak and hemlock timbers for professional timber framers, barn builders and other structural contractors. Our new sawmill (rebuilt after a 2002 fire) is one of the few in the country that can produce long length timbers up to 32 feet long. We can also furnish timbers with girth up to 24 inches finish planed and accurately sized to 1/16 inch in our timber sizer, delivered ready for you to cut and join. And our mill is one of the relative few to have graders on staff who are NeLMA certified for grading timbers, enabling your work to be fully compliant with local building codes and specific engineering requirements. We are truly the full service custom sawmill for the timber framing contractor. Let us help you find ways to save money, add value, and improve the bottom line of your post and beam project. Delivery is available direct to your shop or jobsite anywhere in the U.S.
Do your customers specify wood from sustainably managed woodlands? Cowls Sawmill and Land Company is a 9th generation family owned business that has been managing forests and manufacturing lumber in Massachusetts’ Pioneer Valley since 1741. As a founding member of the American Forest Foundation’s Tree Farm System, Cowls’ timberland has been certified sustainable for over 50 years by the oldest and largest voluntary, third party verification process in the United States. Our timbers and lumber are produced from logs harvested from local forests that have supported ecological diversity, recreational opportunities and a sustainable wood supply for centuries. As a 9th generation family company, we know the benefit of planning for an ecologically sustainable future.
If, in addition to posts and beams, your project requires rough sawn boards, patterned boards, framing lumber, custom flooring or molded siding, we can add them to your order and ship them with your timbers. We offer 14 patterns of pine including shiplap, tongue and groove and log cabin siding.
